Traditional green foliage, colorful or ornamental... Which houseplants do you prefer?

Many different types of houseplants can be used in office or home environments for decoration and enjoyment.  Some prefer traditional green foliage instead of modern, and some colorful before ornamental.

In the world of plants, the only really true houseplants are molds, mildew, and fungi.   Man comes up with green foliage that defies nature and will live not only indoors, but also in any indoor atmosphere.  Some plants’ colorful attractiveness and easy culture make them more suitable for interior use.  Other plants possess different characteristics also making them attractive as houseplants, such as plants with a low-light requirement, green plants safe for pets and children, ornamental plants good for people who are allergic, or traditional plants that are not easily destructible.

Green Plants

Plants that are kept as interior plants mostly for their green leaves, and not for their colorful blooms, are usually called green plants.  Green interior plants exist in all sizes and they are a popular detail in interior design of homes and can also be used to clean the air from different pollutants.  It is easy to use green house plants as decorations as you don’t have to wonder whether their blooms match one another.  They are also perfect for people with allergies.

Large green plants may not be as common as houseplants any more, but those types of interior plants are really nice in any home.  For example, by using large plants as a complement to pots in a window, any room becomes more green and lush creating a very comfortable environment.  Large green plants and tropical houseplants can also work as pieces of furniture and be used as a shelter for direct view from a neighbor or as dividers in large rooms.  For easy care, they can also be planted in pots that have built-in self-watering or even plastic pots, which help the soil retain moisture longer so that plants don’t need watering as frequently.

Blooming Plants

A very large part of the plants that we keep as houseplants today reproduce by producing blooms (the flower is the reproductive organ of a flowering plant), but the terms “blooming plants ” or "flowering houseplants" are mostly used for plants that are primarily kept indoors due to their beautiful or nicely smelling blooms.  There are many colorful and flowering choices out there to choose from.  Blooming plants from all over the world are today found in our homes, and that is also why it is difficult to give out general care tips that work for all sorts of blooming plants.  Generally, these indoor plants need more light than green plants, and they also generally need more water.  However, there are many exceptions, so the best way to find out how to care for a blooming plant is to know what type of plant it is and then seek out information about that specific plant group.
