Indoor Plants and Office Greenery in Reception and Waiting Areas

Indoor plants and office greenery can make your reception and waiting areas more attractive.  Not only do they add beauty to the space, but they also have health benefits for visitors.

Flowers and plants have been proven to increase the oxygen content in the indoor air, and also help people become more productive.  By adding indoor plants and greenery in your reception and waiting area, your visitors are more likely to feel welcomed and at ease.

So, how does one decide how much flowers and plants to add, and where to place it?  Too many interior plants may be distracting, and too few pots and plants may make the area too dull.  You will either want the office plants to follow the color scheme of the room and blend in well with the furnishings and company image or you want them to create a contrast with the colors for visual interest.  However, some areas have more light and some have more shade and this may make it harder to add plants and flowers to the space.  Watering, adding fertilizers and cleaning are also factors when deciding how many pots and plants to add.

Here are some tips:

  • Reception and waiting areas often need to be made softer, so adding indoor plants here are ideal.
  • The reception desk is the ideal place for seasonal decorations or colorful flowers.
  • If there are nooks, plant boxes may be built into the wall to add interest, and interior plants in windows is usually very appealing.
  • Placing potted plants on tables in the waiting area and at the ends of seating create an ambiance and more inviting feeling. Medium sized pots and plants are perfect for these spaces and make sure you get pots that blend well with the rest of the room.
  • Room corners are great for larger pots and plants, such as palm trees. They soften the corners and create interest. Make sure the pots match the wall color/s or furnishings for the best effect. Earthenware, brass or woven baskets look elegant.
  • To enhance workstations or cubicles, especially those that are visible from a reception or waiting area, you can place office greenery or interior plants at the end of the table or even at the entrance of the space.
  • For conference tables, lower more unique pots with greenery make great additions. You can also add plants that enhance artwork on the walls or cabinets.
  • If you have a terrace or windowsill visible from the inside, these can be landscaped with potted plants and flowers too, either decoratively placed on stands or in window boxes.

Some plants are more suitable for sunny spots, and some will work better in shaded areas.  If you contact your local interior plant maintenance company, they can help you both design the space, pick the potted plants that will best work with the environment in your office or building and also care for the plants after installation.
