Southern Botanical recently became a member of the Addison Business Association in TX. The Addison Business Association was founded to improve communication between the Town of Addison business community and the Addison city government and City Council.

Purpose of the ABA

Since many of the business professional people who work in Addison live outside of the city they do not have the opportunity to vote on city matters. Therefore, the ABA was established to represent the interest of non-voting members of the community, who greatly affected by decisions relating to taxes, water, sewage, zoning, street improvements and other related issues.

The ABA's relationship with the city government has been one of cooperation and mutual benefit and the stated goal since 1975 has been "to help build Addison into a great and prosperous city".

History of the ABA

Our history dates back to January 23, 1975 when a group of business executives and professionals gathered at the Addison State Bank to discuss ways to improve communications between the Town of Addison business community and Addison’s city government and city council. This group was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in March of 1976 with the stated purpose of “helping to build Addison into a great and prosperous city.” In the years that followed, the ABA grew to over 150 member companies including representatives from retail, financial, manufacturing, construction, professional and numerous other industries in the area. The ABA has effectively represented the business community and its concerns in Addison since our beginning in 1975 and our goal is to continue to serve the business community and improve Addison and it’s business climate.

What has the ABA done?

The ABA has influenced many key decisions for the Town of Addison since our founding in 1975. A few of the issues we have been involved in include:

• Capital Budgets

• Tollway Extension

• Bond Issues

• Zoning Laws

• Sign Standards

• DART

• Restaurant Parking

• Airport Tunnel

• Post Office Retention and Local Delivery

These are just a few of the areas in which the ABA has fulfilled its original goal of “helping to build Addison into a great and prosperous city.”

What will the ABA do for you?

The Addison Business Association is a vehicle for you to have a voice in matters that affect your business and the use of your tax dollars. The ABA will keep you informed and give you an opportunity to have input into decisions which affect Addison’s future. On a monthly basis you will receive an Addison Council Meeting summary newsletter which recaps council decisions and matters under consideration. You will also have the opportunity to attend monthly ABA luncheon meetings. Speakers regularly include the Mayor, City Manager, and other State and Federal officials speaking on relevant topics of current local interest. These luncheons also serve as a place to meet and develop relationships with business and professional people within this community as well as city government officials.

The ABA is not a Chamber of Commerce to compete with the Metrocrest Chamber, instead it is a business and professional organization that makes recommendations in a “shirt sleeve” environment from a “hands on” perspective that will in the long run, make Addison a better community in which to work and live.
