Southern Botanical Interiors supports the Dallas community with orchids and fresh cut flowers

Posted by Southern Botanical, Inc. in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX on May 11, 2009

At Southern Botanical Interiors we believe in supporting our Dallas community, and this year, we have donated orchids and fresh cut flowers to several community auctions.

Southern Botanical is proud to sponsor several Dallas community auctions and events with either one full year of orchids or fresh cut flowers, or both.  The year of fresh cut flowers is a live auction item with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Derby.

Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Derby

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Derby auction benefits education and outreach for the Dallas Symphony, including the Orchestra Education and Community Engagement programs. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra Education and Community Engagement programs are the beneficiaries of the Wells Fargo Dallas Symphony Derby.

  • DSO Cecil and Ida Green Youth Concerts serve 40,000 students each year from more than 30 public school districts.
  • The Young Strings program creates opportunities for talented young African-American and Hispanic musicians providing free lessons with DSO musicians and supports their progress.
  • Music & Merit is a scholarship program for Dallas Public School students, grades 3-6, for transportation to DSO Youth Concerts.
  • More than 400,000 visits are recorded each month to the www.DSOkids.com web site.
  • More than 25,000 people attend free community concerts each year. Forty-plus Dallas-area social service agencies participate in HeartStrings through which The Dallas Symphony distributes 6,000 free tickets to regular subscription concerts annually.

The Dallas Symphony spends more than $700,000 on community outreach each year and The Dallas Symphony Derby and its auctions have a large role to play in maintaining and growing these programs. For more about the Derby Event, go to http://www.dallassymphonyleague.com and click on Derby Party.

Dallas Museum of Art
, Art Ball

The gilt and glamour of the Egyptian era are reinterpreted into an amazing supper club for one of the largest museum fundraising events in the nation: the 2009 Art Ball.

Designed after the great dining clubs of yesterday, a relaxing evening of refined music with the sounds of The James Davis Orchestra and The Ratpack, modern styling, and reflections of gold at every turn brings a new style to this year’s ball.

This will be an evening to relax, socialize, dance, and escape while providing financial support for the Museum’s education programs and special exhibitions. Over the past nine years, this event has raised $13 million to support the Dallas Museum of Art’s mission of engaging and educating the community.

The Museum’s Young Artists Education Program is directly funded by the Ball. In its tenth year, the program provides elementary and high school students from public and private schools with funding and education necessary to create artwork that is then displayed and incorporated into décor for the evening of the Ball. Last year’s Young Artists Education Program included ten public and private schools and twenty-nine teachers.

Stonewall Jackson Elementary “Dreams of Green” Silent Auction

Along with all schools in Dallas, Stonewall Jackson Elementary was affected tremendously by the budget shortfall of the DISD.  Our hearts went out to every talented, special teacher who was affected, especially our Outdoor Science Lab and Gardens instructor.

This outdoor science lab and garden has been cultivated over years and even studied as a model for other schools.  Our hope is that our fundraising efforts will enable us to continue to fund this outdoor science lab and garden so that our children can have this dynamic piece of their science curriculum in place.  So our "dreams of green" relate to the dreams of keeping this garden intact and the dream of how fundraising from our events will benefit the budding minds of our children, hopefully offsetting the losses incurred during this difficult year.  In addition to the Outdoor Science Lab and Garden, this event will also allow Stonewall Jackson Elementary to:
  • Continue “Special Events”, our annual week-long celebration and in-depth study of a culture or country. Last year’s event introduced our children to India. The long-standing tradition dates back to 1976.
  • Purchase library books and computers.
  • Supplement teacher mini-grants for classroom teaching tools.
  • Enrich After School Programs.
  • Support the Music Program.
  • Keep parents informed.
