Stripe-A-Zone History: 1950-1987

Stripe-A-Zone has been in the striping business over 50 years and still continues to be the nation’s largest parking lot striping company.

Stripe-A-Zone was started in August of 1950 by R.E. Lindsey as a division of Traffic Systems, Inc as a means of additional income for the company. Mr. Lindsey used a hand operated parking lot striping machine to increase production and efficiency. By 1952, Stripe-A-Zone was a full time business for Lindsey.

It was then that Lindsey uncovered the need for concrete wheel stops, the concrete dividers currently in place in many parking lots today. Lindsey created the concrete wheel stop concept and was the owner of the patent for the product. Today, Stripe-A-Zone ships out concrete wheel stops all across the United States.

As Lindsey’s business started to thrive, the parking lot striping market was expanded to include road and airfield striping. In 1974, Stripe-A-Zone merged with Anderson Striping to form the largest parking lot striping company in the United States.
