December 16, Dallas, TX: Studio Movie Grill, the Dallas-based pioneer of the “movie grill” concept—which combines first-run movies, a state-of-the-art viewing experience and high quality food—announced today the opening of Studio Movie Grill-City Center, as it further expands its operation by offering its second Houston theater and seventh in Texas. Located at
Beltway 8 and I-10, Studio Movie Grill-City Center will open its doors in February 2009, offering Houston area moviegoers a second, centrally-located theater in which to enjoy the concept that originated and has enjoyed unprecedented success at its Dallas-area locations.
Situated in a deluxe 40,000 square foot theater in the upscale City Center development, Studio Movie Grill will continue to deliver on an experience that delights customers who expect no compromises in everybody’s two favorite entertainment options—dinner and a movie.
“By focusing on the best in customer service and being the premiere location for first run movies and a first class dining experience,’ Studio Movie Grill creates a significantly more enjoyable night out than by going to dinner and a movie separately,” said Brian Schultz, founder, co-owner and president. “We thoroughly enjoyed introducing Houston to the-movie-grill-done-right at our first area location and can’t wait to open our doors at City Center. Once customers walk into the stylishly designed lobby, take a seat in one of 1,500 individual leather recliners, order a delicious meal served hot at their table, and watch a blockbuster movie on our premiere 100% digital screens with 100% Dolby Digital sound, they’ll never go to another theater again.”
The Studio Movie Grill surprise begins with ticket prices equal to or below those of traditional theaters. And to make things even easier for patrons who want to be sure not to miss a popular movie, Studio Movie Grill provides online ticketing, as well as a ticket kiosk onsite. “We offer first-run movies in a first-class setting, but we don’t charge first-class prices,” said Schultz’s partner, Martin Massman. “Plus, with the busy schedules everybody has these days; many people can’t make it to the theater until just before show time. So, we give them the convenience of ordering tickets ahead of time on the Internet.”
Patrons will immediately be aware they are in a theater that exceeds today’s highest THXTM standards. All eight theaters are outfitted with Dolby Digital EX sound systems, higher gain, wall-to-wall screens and superior 100% digital projection technology, including high-end reflectors and top-of-the-line projector lenses. Plasma televisions in the lobby display previews and other exciting content. “The quality of the viewing experience at Studio Movie Grill is superb,” said Schultz. “We create the perfect atmosphere for a ‘one-stop’ night out, and want to ensure that our sound and image quality are better than any other theater in Houston.”
The complex is also outfitted to handle large meetings, events, conferences and birthday parties. With hard-wired DLP projectors offering ‘plug and play’ display on large screens, meetings and presentations will achieve a richness and retention level significantly higher than in settings not optimized for multimedia.

After entering the theater, patrons choose an individual leather recliner that swivels, rolls and tilts. Once seated, they can peruse the menu and then press the call light on a small coaster to let the friendly staff know they want service or need a refill. The call light minimizes any potential disruption to other patrons. “Even though they are eating, people are still at a movie and they don’t want to miss anything. Our system enables us to create an environment in which we serve patrons their favorite food or beverage without distracting others around them,” added Schultz.
Speaking of food, Studio Movie Grill has it! The extensive food and beverage menu—featured twice on the Food Network’s Top Five—includes something for everybody, from fresh salads to robust burgers and chicken sandwiches, shrimp or rib platters, gourmet hand-tossed pizzas and, of course, mouthwatering desserts, including the ever popular Brownie Sundae. Patrons can satisfy their thirst with an exhaustive list of domestic and imported beers, premium wines, and specialty mixed drinks—such as a Kahlua Mudslide or the 20 oz Studio Grande’ Blue Margarita. Traditionalists who simply want their movie popcorn and soft drink can get that as well.
“Our great food sets Studio Movie Grill apart from a traditional theater, as well as typical cinema-eateries,” explained Massman. “Our executive chef, who has worked for one of the largest restaurant companies in the world, has continually monitored the menu and developed new items to make sure that the dining experience matches the viewing experience. Whether people want an appetizer, a complete meal, or simply popcorn, they can be sure that they’ll be happy with the quality and flavor.”
Studio Movie Grill’s careful focus on every detail important to enjoying dinner and a movie ensures customers will never have to make the choice of “Movie or a meal?” It has also meant that Schultz and Massman have been judicious in the chain’s expansion. “We would rather do it right than do it fast for the sake of pumping up our numbers,” said Massman. “Our careful development of the movie grill concept, over more than 10 years, has enabled us to create the ultimate environment. Why trudge to a cavernous megaplex and then rush someplace else to eat a quick bite before the babysitter has to leave? Why wait to ‘see it on DVD’ and eat cold leftovers? With Studio Movie Grill you don’t have to—and we even do the dishes!”
