Tarek Saab, Catholic speaker and author of Gut Check: Confronting Love, Work, and Manhood in Your Twenties, was the featured guest on EWTN's "Life on the Rock" on Thursday, September 20th. Tarek Saab rose to fame as a popular contestant on NBC's The Apprentice: Season 5, and he is the co-founder of Lionheart Apparel, a Christian men's clothing line.

The LOTR interview covered topics such as business ethics, chastity, entertainment, manhood, prayer, etc. Excerpts below:

Fr. Francis: As a CEO out there in the business world, are there moments when . . . you feel a certain pressure to give in or hide your Catholicism?

Tarek Saab: "Absolutely . . . but sometimes you have to look at your brother, the man sitting across the table and say (to yourself) 'look, if I really love this guy, then the onus is on me to preach the truth and not to be his best friend."

Fr. Francis: "Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI are challenging the young people to engage the culture. As a corporate businessman do you have to try to compartmentalize your faith?"

Tarek Saab: "Not at all. I think the important lesson that we all have to learn is the lesson of detachment. You can't confront the secular culture unless you are detached from it in the first place. That includes business."

Caller: Hi Tarek, I've been following you since The Apprentice and think you exemplify Catholic manhood. I am so excited for my son and brothers to read your new book. Can you give us an idea of what we can expect from it?

Tarek Saab: "I have a new book coming out next year (ed note: March 1st, 2008) called Gut Check: Confronting Love, Work, & Manhood in Your Twenties. It is my testimonial, my personal testimonial from the age of eighteen until now of how I arrived at my level of spirituality, my Catholicity. There were many challenges and roadblocks along the way, particularly in college. College is the new high school. It is a time of rebelliousness when people lose their way.
