Frisco Fence Repair Company owner, Sean Eubanks, President of Texas State Fence Co., has seen a spike in requests for fence repairs. The storms that came through the Dallas Fort Worth area on June 10th and 11th 2009 caused tremendous damage to fences. Straight line winds of up to 80 miles per hour and a few reported ‘twisters’, rotational wind events, damaged hundreds of fences in North Texas. Damages ranged from the minimal level of a few pickets blown out of a panel, to wholesale failure of the posts and hangers causing complete loss of fence rows in some cases. An interesting observation is that fences which had been constructed with steel posts properly set in concrete had a much higher survival rate than fences with wood posts, Of course, the newer the fence the less likely damage seemed to be, however, the winds were sufficiently powerful that even some well built newer fences were damaged.
Fences that are older have a combination of problems that increase the probability of damage when high winds occur. First, posts that are made of wood are susceptible to wood destroying insects and water damage. Both cause the wood to weaken. Second, prevailing winds tend to cause the fence to lean over time and the added stress of gravity on a non vertical fence cause stresses to build up more quickly. Third, the natural stresses of wind over time loosen the nails or screws that are used to attache the various fencing system components to each other and as these fasteners weaken they become more likely to fail when high winds stress the fence system. If you find yourself in need of fence repairs, maintenance, or replacement give the Frisco Fence Repair Company owned by Sean Eubanks (Texas State Fence Co.) a call at 972-898-1307.
