The Versatility of WordPress

WordPress is the defacto standard for bloggers.  Why?  It is powerful, search friendly, and flat out easy to use.  As the open source development world's contributions to WordPress continue to grow however, both plugins and themes are enabling WordPress to become more than just a blogging platform.

Russian developers Dimox, for example, have created a WordPress theme that transforms it into an article directory.  An example of this combined with a solid article directory plugin in ExecutiveWho.  Other PHP plugins and code allow it to simply become the front end for a general Internet Directory.  CompanyWho is a general business listing directory that exemplifies this.

WordPress is quickly becoming the defacto standard for next generation websites.  With the right theme, it doesn't even look like WordPress at all--it simply makes for another great website.
