Understanding Your Dry Skin in the Summer

Dry skin can be a hassle this summer.

Anyone can understand what dry, itchy skin is when they step out into the summer heat. There are other causes of dry skin, though, that many people are unaware of. For emergency dry skin care this summer, look for lotions with extra-rich, moisturizing lotions.

Common Causes of Dry Skin
Dry Air: This is the most common cause of dry skin, especially in the summer, when humidity levels are at its lowest. Turning on the AC this summer might be a necessity, but the dry air that blows around the house sucks all the moisture right out of the skin.
Hot showers and baths: Everyone likes to take their daily hot shower. It's in our routines. Prolonged exposure to hot water, however, can strip the skin of its natural oils.
Soap: Most people don't think twice about using their soap or body wash, especially when the product promotes moisturizing. Chemicals in harsh soaps are usually the most damaging because they are used so often.

Steps to Care for Dry Skin
Dryness is usually easier to care for once you are aware of its causes.

While you're at the supermarket, try investing in a humidifier for your room, along with some mild cleansers. The right cleanser may take a while to find, depending on your skin type. Try to avoid the antibacterial and deodorant soaps, the harshest cleansers. Instead, look for a product that has shea butter, which has natural oils and vitamins.

It's important to also be conscious of your bathing habits. If you are a person that enjoys baths, try replacing a long bath with a shower. It's also not necessary to go straight to a cold shower. Instead, replace hot water with lukewarm water. When you get out of the shower, try to pat down your body with the towel instead of rubbing.

Moisturizing the Right Way
The best way to care for dry skin is to use an organic, nutrient-infused moisturizing lotion. Avoid the lotions that have alcohol or perfumes, which dry out skin even more. Tree Hut offers natural and enriched lotions that are Certified Organic. Use the lotion right after you take a shower. The best time to apply lotion is when the skin is still damp.
