Transcript, Segment 6 – Essbase
What we’re gonna do now, currently we’re in the Oracle Business Intelligence Administraion Tool. This is actual the tool where you do all your federation, and this is where you act pull in all your data sources to do you logical mapping.
What we’re going to do now is we’re going to go ahead and input an Essbase cube. So if any of you are wondering about security, you have to put in your user name and password to even connect to the Essbase cube. Here, it brings actually brings back a list of cubes that are actually available on your Essbase server.
I’m just going to pick Basic Cube. Here we have it, I’m going to rename it so that it is visible to everyone. Now it was just that easy to import an Essbase cube. What I’m going do now is pull it over to the biz modeling and mapping layer; this is where you would do all your modeling and mapping, but since this data is actually coming from Essbase, Oracle Business Intelligence itself takes that information, flattens it, and creates the hierarchy itself so you don’t have to worry about doing the business model and mapping of that particular piece. So what you can do immediately is drag it over to the presentation layer and now it would be available to you inside the presentation layer for you to actually go ahead and start writing queries against.
