Oracle Virtualization

Below is a transcript of a portion of a North Texas Hyperion User Group Conference workshop led by consultants form US-Analytics. US-Analytics IT infrastructure experts discuss Oracle Virtualization and answer questions from the audience.

"Now, Oracle virtualization is another thing Collin brought up. At this point, about 75% of my customers are doing virtualization.

"VMware is really the buzzword, and there’s a real good reason for it. The official support is best practice, best effort kind of thing. They really officially support the Oracle virtualization but I’ve really had a lot of luck with VMware. All my customers seem to love VMware. I don’t really see any problems other than the host.

"A lot of people get VMware to save money, and it does it saves you a lot of money. The problem is that some people take that too far. So if I tell you I need a machine for this server that needs 4 cores and 8 gigs of RAM, and you give me a machine running on a host with 4 cores and 8 gigs of RAM, there’s gonna be problems. It is kind of common sense but it happens more often than you really want to know. That’s really the main drawback with VM-ware. Otherwise I don’t really  see any problems, and it does provide lots of benefits. All the V-Motion all that stuff, most of it is pretty helpful.
