Three Environments

Below is a transcript of a portion of a North Texas Hyperion User Group Conference workshop led by consultants form US-Analytics. US-Analytics IT infrastructure experts discuss Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning and answer questions from the audience.

"On to Dev Test Prod. Why should you have three environments?

"Well, because my soap box for one reason. Test should be same as prod if you’re gonna give end users an environment to play in, let them play in dev. Dev can be one box, two box, whatever you need. And let them break it. Honestly, I’d love to see all devs VM-ware (Oracle Virtualization), even if you’re not a big VM (Oracle Virtualization) shop, because you set up your dev, make a back up copy of the images, it’s very easy, shut it down, copy the files, put them to tape, whatever you want. Let people mess with it. It’s a great learning experience. “I broke it.” We’ll try to fix it. We can’t, we’ll put it back no worries. And your test is still the same as prod (with Oracle Virtualization)."
