Considering Upgrades

Below is a transcript of a portion of a North Texas Hyperion User Group Conference workshop led by consultants form US-Analytics. US-Analytics IT infrastructure experts discuss Oracle Version Upgrades and answer questions from the audience.

"In your decision, if you’re going to go to 9.3.1, (Oracle Version Upgrade) if you’re going to go to 11.1, the first thing I say you do is go look at the (Oracle Hyperion Version Upgrade) fixes and see if those fixes are going to affect you. Because new features are new features, you don’t have to use them. If Calc Manager is garbage – and I’m not saying it is – but if it is, just don’t use it. It is a new (Oracle Hyperion) feature you don’t need that. But things like Oracle Essbase, Oracle HFM, the things that you’re using now, look at the fixes. If those fixes affect you then you really should consider 11 and keep in mind how often you’re going to upgrade. If you’re the kind of company that keeps with a version for five or six years, then Oracle Version 9.3.1 is going to be out of support before you want to upgrade, so go to Oracle Version 11.1."
