Independent Bands and Record Labels Have New Powerful Resource Online

Lindsay Stone (web developer for EBM-Corp.com and eCorners.com) makes a 10 year dream become a realty of breathing life into Open Mouth Media, an online music community to help give the power marketing  back to the artists.

Almost ten years ago when Lindsay Stone published her first CD though a website called MP3.com, a site created and ran by Michael Robertson founded in 1998. Since then MP3.com was bought out by CNET Networks and the glory days of independent artist being able to publish their CDs (with no upfront cost) would soon be over.

Lindsay Stone as an artist herself knows just how difficult it is for most bands with no financial backing to be able to pay the upfront cost required to print even a short run of CDs and then hope to be able to sell the CDs to regain the money for the cost of manufacturing. Not only does a band have to pay for the printing, but they also have to figure out a way to promote the CD and how to distribute it. When Lindsay Stone started adding up all the cost, things became overwhelming and build up a sense of hopelessness to ever have a chance to get the word out.

If a band takes notice of the trends of music distribution, they will notice that physical CD sales have dropped over the last few years, but download sales have taken more of the music sales percentage. Part of these latest statistics have much to do with how difficult it is for an artist to publish a CD of retail quality, when they can easily put their music online for download.

Although Lindsay Stone (founder of OpenMouthMedia.com) realizes download sales have increased, Lindsay also realizes that a band can't really sell downloads at a live show. Live concerts have become more important than ever before now that music sales as a whole has decreased over the last several years. Most small independent bands don't really make much to support themselves on the road strictly from cover charges and ticket sales. Being how true this is bands know how important it is for them to take full advantage of merchandise sales at live concerts, and to this day CDs are still the easiest way to get the music into fans hands when at a bar or concert hall.

Now days it's more important than ever for bands to be able to take advantage of every avenue they can to help support themselves and build a strong music career. Lindsay Stone decided that it was time to put her dream into action and launch Open Mouth Media. After years of development and research Lindsay Stone teamed up with an investment partner to build a website to help put the distribution power back into the artist hands.

Open Mouth Media is now up and running with many great features combining elements from popular social networks of Myspace.com and distribution services of Cdbaby.com. By by combining these elements along with the power of Print On Demand services, www.openmouthmedia.com is expected to become a powerful source tool for upcoming independent bands from all over the world.
