However, because of the popularity of the HD format, most clients request that the project be created in HD. And here is where understanding your clients goals really comes into play.
HD format for display on the internet is, for the most part, simply not needed and can be a huge waste of resources. Anytime video is displayed on the internet the video is going through some form of compression. This reduces the resolution, so in effect you loose the HD element. A typical video production company will build their proposal based on what the client specified from the start. And while this seems like a perfectly acceptable procedure it can end up costing the client.
Involving the client deeply at the start of the video production process creates two huge benefits that really matter. The first is time. When you front load much of the client time you get a deeper understanding of what they really want but the true benefit is that they are needed less throughout the mundane parts of the process. This means you create less stress for them as they get involved with other tasks that are running concurrently. By spending that extra hour up front you save the client the stress of making snap decisions and pushing other projects back to deal with problems that should have been solved from the outset.
Second you will certainly save the client valuable dollars. When decisions are made up front the client can make cost effective decisions based both on budget and on needs. Also, the front loaded time almost always saves the client from spending extra dollars in the middle of the video production to solve problems that should have been rooted out in the beginning.
