Sometimes the word ‘counseling’ may have a negative connotation attached. But let us not think of counseling as something connected to mental illness. We can attempt to perceive counseling as a journey into our inner selves. Sometimes in life we encounter sadness or traumatic events. We may become emotional and lose rationality.
We may become confused and lost. We, as counselors, are here to guide and support you through your inner turmoil. We hope through our therapeutic alliance you can gain a new perspective in life and insight into your own. In working toward improvements for the mind, body and spirit, we hope to help our clients find balance in their lives.
Chelisa is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor. She has worked in an inpatient psychiatric setting and in the past couple years, she worked in outpatient treatment for a community agency providing counseling, psychosocial rehabilitation and case management services for a diverse population and range of mental illnesses. She works with individuals who are depressed, have anxiety issues, post traumatic stress, couple/relationship issues, anger, grief and loss, and family issues.
She believes each person is unique. She uses a variety of counseling techniques, but mostly focuses on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She believes negative beliefs and thoughts affect how people perceive their world and in turn affect their mood and behavior. She believes people feel discouraged when faced with life challenges such as loss of job, loss of loved ones, relationship issues, etc. She strives to encourage and teach you tools to help you reach life goals and reframe negative thinking. She hopes through the therapeutic alliance you will gain new insight into your life and learn to develop problem solving skills.
