Woody Runner is a seasoned private equity investor and executive with significant interdisciplinary and industry experience that includes healthcare, technology, manufacturing and distribution, raising and investing private equity and debt capital, outsourcing, leveraged acquisitions, and high-level business problem solving. His executive experience includes director, CEO and chief financial officer responsibilities, business-model transformation, management-team recruiting, technology conversion, and large-scale audits, among many others.
Runner has been CEO of Kerlan-Jobe, LLC, since 2004, and between 2003 and 2006 was acting CEO of Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic. Kerlan-Jobe is a world-renowned sports medicine and orthopaedic surgery practice that pioneered the field of sports medicine and operates the country’s largest sports medicine fellowship training program. As acting CEO, he resolved a large-scale business dispute; negotiated with a venture partner to correct the relationship and improve profitability; defined and implemented new business to capture intellectual property and investment opportunities; introduced and led adoption of better business practices; led the migration to a new outsourced business office and processing platform; headed negotiations for a key strategic relationship with a hospital system; and led the restructuring of the organization of the practice. He continues as a consultant to the clinic. In addition, Runner has represented the lead investment group through the initial financing round and continues to represent investors in Sovereign Surgical Holdings, L.P., a developer and operator of surgery centers and specialty surgery hospitals.
Runner’s other business activities include acting as a principal of Cumberland Capital Corporation, a private equity investment firm that has directly or indirectly participated in acquisition, divestiture and financing transactions with aggregate values of more than $2 billion. He was a member of the board of directors of a leading provider of digital rights management software that was sold in 2005. He has played significant strategic roles in one of the world’s most prominent outsourcing consultancies, and at one of the largest U.S. check authorization and collection outsourcing companies. He has also held executive positions at a leading manufacturer and distributor of flat glass, and at a domestic oil and gas development and production company.
Runner’s career began as a CPA at KMG Main Hurdman. He earned a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration with an emphasis on accounting from West Virginia University.
