Diabetes education has been a career focus for Nancy Bristow who, in her current position, is a nurse-clinician and diabetes management consultant.  Additional professional activities include providing advice on the development of diabetes-related products for major pharmaceutical manufacturers. Among her accomplishments in this field are developing the Bristow Wheel for the navigator calibration device, and help in developing the TheraSense meter and accessories and the Abbott FreeStyle Navigator continuous glucose sensor.

Bristow speaks to North Texas allied healthcare providers about helping patients manage their diabetes and osteoporosis, and is on advisory boards to companies that include TheraSense/Abbott, Eli Lilly, Sanofi Aventis, Novartis, Bayer, Glaxo Smith Kline, Roche Diagnostics, Fovi Optics and Intuity Medical.

Bristow, who earned science bachelor’s degree in nursing from Texas Woman’s University, is also a member of the State Board of Nurse Examiners and is a Certified Diabetes Educator. She is also a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Association of Diabetes Educators/North Texas, of which she is a past secretary, and the American Diabetes Association, of which she is a past a board member. She has published patient teaching and education manuals for St. Paul’s Hospital in Dallas and contributed a chapter on insulin therapy as co-author of the Current Trends manual for the Diabetes Treatment Centers of America.
