Dr. Darren W. Lackan is an endocrinologist, a physician who specializes in treating disorders of the human endocrine system, including diabetes, thyroid disorders, metabolic bone dieases (osteoporosis), and many others. Before assuming his current position, Lackan was a consultant directing inpatient and outpatient care for Baylor Specialty Associates. He was an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine within the Endocrinology and Metabolism division at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Lackan spent this time at UTMB training Endocrinology fellows, Internal Medicine residents and medical students.

Presentations Lackan has made include Effect of IGF1 on GLUT 3 glucose transporter function; A Dose Response Study Examining the Protein Metabolic Effects of Essential Amino Acid Supplementation in the Elderly, Endocrine Society annual meeting; and Parathyroid Hormone Related Peptide and B-Cell Lymphoma: Case Report and Literature Review, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists Annual Meeting. He has earned numerous honors that include a NIH Extramural Clinical Research grant; a University of Texas General Clinical Research Feasibility Fund grant award; and a Pfizer’s Scholar Award in Endocrinology, among others.

Lackan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine with a subspecialty certification in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism. Lackan is a member of The American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, The Endocrine Society, the American Diabetic Association, and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. He is currently on the Clinical Advisory Board for Eli Lilly. His contributions to professional publications include, “Effect of androgen replacement on muscle, bone and hair,” The Andropause Textbook, Clinical Concepts & Practice.

Lackan earned his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in biology from Austin College.
