Are You Ready to be a Homeowner?

Buying a home is probably the largest purchase any of us will make in our lifetime. It means a big commitment in terms of finances, not only when it comes to making mortgage payments, but in terms of maintenance and repairs. Having said that, home ownership is also an opportunity for us to put down roots and create a stable environment for our families. When you are at the point in your life when you have found a place that you like and can see yourself living in for many years, it is probably time to consider purchasing a home.

Once it gets to the point where you have the means to make a down payment on a house, it probably doesn't make a lot of sense to continue to pay your landlord's mortgage. You would be much better off making payments on your own mortgage.

Buying a home is not the right move for you if you are doing it simply because it seems like everyone is buying real estate right now or because you see yourself as making a killing flipping houses. Too many people think that if they take on this responsibility , they will either mature themselves or prop up a relationship that is in trouble. Nothing could be farther from the truth. With a financial commitment of this magnitude, it makes sense to take the time to consider all the pros and cons of this decision.

You will be entering into a legally-binding contract. Once you put pen to paper and sign you name, you have committed yourself. Take the time to be sure of your rights and responsibilities.
